Is It Too Late to Apply?

Most optometry schools admit on a rolling basis, so every week you wait matters more than the posted deadline suggests. Here's what slows an application down and what each school says about timing.

Last checked Nov 2, 2026.

The Short Answer

OptomCAS stays open until May 20, 2027 this cycle, and the 25 programs here set their own deadlines between Dec 12, 2026 and May 20, 2027. 19 of 25 describe their decisions as rolling. Early applicants tend to get interview invitations and scholarship consideration first, and some programs fill their seats before their posted deadline, so a deadline that's months away doesn't mean there's no rush.

No school in our data publishes how many seats are left, so nobody outside an admissions office can tell you when a particular class closes. If a school is high on your list, apply as soon as your application is complete and ask its admissions office about timing.

Where Applications Actually Get Stuck

Most delays come from paperwork, not from the applicant. Your application isn't sent to schools until OptomCAS verifies it, and verification can't start until your transcripts have posted.

If either applies to you, start the evaluation before anything else.
